UPLINC

UPLINC is a prototype event organizing and networking platform aimed at professionals. UPLINC allows event organizers to plan, promote, and sell tickets to their events. For event participants, UPLINC allows them to have a professional profile for event participations, as well as connecting them with other participants, acting as a social media platform for an event. To describe UPLINC in a single tagline, UPLINC is considered "Tinder for Professionals".

This is a startup company project in 2019 by 6 Indonesian students in The Netherlands. This platform aims to break the common stigma of the difficulty of starting a conversation, or having meaningless conversation due to differences in interests with a stranger at professional events. UPLINC solves this by matching fellow event participants based on their interests and field, creating prior connections with them before the start of the event.

The first step to this project is to research our target audience. Empathizing with event participants who sometimes finds difficulties in making professional connections in social networking events, hence defeating the entire purpose of the event. Understanding the common problems faced by event participants using testimonials and user personas, we determined the main goal of UPLINC is to ease creating connections for these people.

The next step is conducting market research. Determining, then learning and analyzing our competitors, and shape our strengths in correlation to the current market. SWOT analyzing the features and design decisions of our platforms, using a Business Model Canvas (BMC), as well as researching the market size and required market penetration rate to break even and create a profit.

After features, we moved on to design our platform. By correlating to our target audience, we opted to a clean and minimalistic visual design language, mainly utilizing the gradients of green. According to color psychology, the color green helps convey a corporate setting, reliability, leadership, and success. This helps reflect the professionalism in the brand and its target audience of professionals. This design language is then documented into stylesheets and then implemented into the website and app wireframes, as well as other content such as presentation decks to create uniformity in branding.

The trailer is then tasked to me and another person. For this corporate and professional platform, we decided to have our trailer utilize IRL footage. This allows us to learn cinematics and handling cameras using a DSLR camera and trying to achieve professional grade shots akin to corporate videos. This involves planning the shots, finding creative solutions to create steady motion, and learning new features and plugins in Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as creating a script, recording and editing the voiceover in Adobe Audition.

This is the first project that allows me to learn and dive into working on a startup company, financial research, and branding. While being a creative, this topic is very important for me to have an understanding on for me to be able to navigate and be competitive in the professional field. Enjoy the trailer to UPLINC below!
